Hannya pendant cast in bronze.
Hannya pendant cast in bronze.
This pendant was referenced from one of my digital prints (pictured below). I decided to sculpt this piece because I wanted to see how my 2D art would translate into 3D. After making the digital sculpt, I really wanted to bring it into reality through 3D printing and lost wax casting. The resulting piece is available here.
Digitally sculpted, printed in wax, cast in bronze, antiqued and hand-polished.
Dimensions:
(in) 1.263w x 1.575d x 0.845h
(cm) 3.208w x 4d x 2.146h
Typically in Japanese Noh Theater, the hannya represents a jealous female demon; dangerous and demonic and yet sometimes sorrowful and tormented. The hannya is forever representing the dichotomy of human emotions. The word hannya is commonly associated with madness but within Buddhism it represents attaining the wisdom of enlightenment.
Below is a digital rendering of the actual bust that was created before I changed it into a pendant.
